Fedecámaras Zulia y sus cámaras bases expresaron, nuevamente, su profunda preocupación por los diferentes atentados con explosivos y armas que se han realizado en estos últimos meses a productores agropecuarios de la región.
“Hoy a pocos días de terminar el año y, en un acto vil, fue atacada la residencia de un productor agropecuario en el municipio Rosario de Perijá, dejando grandes pérdidas materiales y afortunadamente sin pérdidas humanas que lamentar”, denunció Fedecámaras en un comunicado.
“Esta institución rechaza contundentemente estas acciones terroristas y conminamos a las autoridades militares y civiles del Zulia a realizar todas las acciones y los esfuerzos necesarios para acabar con este flagelo”, agregó.
Es importante recordar, continuó, que la tranquilidad y desarrollo del Estado está en riesgo, “resaltando el hecho de que no hemos observado un ataque frontal contra estas acciones vandálicas, ni en búsqueda de los ejecutores materiales por parte de las autoridades competentes, que esta misma semana se burlaron de las autoridades policiales al atacar, como lo han hecho en otras oportunidades, un comando de la Policía Nacional en el municipio Santa Rita”.
“Desde Fedecámaras Zulia alertamos de los riesgos que existen si continúan operando sin ningún reparo estos grupos vandálicos, y exigimos en forma contundente, la necesaria y efectiva intervención por parte del gobierno regional, y que él mismo se avoque a la lucha contra la extorsión al sector productivo”, advirtió.

Varios países del mundo ya han detectado casos de la nueva cepa de coronavirus, identificada inicialmente en Reino Unido. Y, América Latina no ha sido ajena a la propagación de la nueva mutación, a la que se apunta más contagiosa pero que de momento no parece ser más letal ni que afecte la efectividad de la vacuna.
Este martes, Chile notificó su primer caso tras diagnosticar a una mujer procedente de un vuelo desde Reino Unido que hizo escala en Madrid, la capital de España.
Chile se une así a un grupo de países que también han registrado la variante como España, Francia, Canadá, Estados Unidos y Japón.
Varios países han restringido los vuelos con Reino Unido, que ahora vive un aumento “sin precedentes” de casos a causa de la facilidad con que se transmite la nueva cepa, dicen expertos.
Sin embargo, estudios afirman que la variante pudo haber estado circulando desde antes en el mundo, pero que esta se detectó primero en Reino Unido por el alto control del sistema de vigilancia británico, según explicó la profesora Sharon Peacock, directora ejecutiva del consorcio de Genómica de la Covid-19 de este país.
De hecho, Hugo López-Gatell, subsecretario de Salud de México, dijo este martes en rueda de prensa que la variante “ya podría estar en México y otros países”.
Más contagiosa
Y es que millones de personas han asumido el nivel máximo de restricciones en Reino Unido debido a la nueva variante del virus que se expande rápidamente por el país.
Los asesores del gobierno británico sobre nuevas infecciones consideran, con un nivel de confianza “moderado”, que la nueva cepa es más contagiosa que otras variantes.
Sin embargo, toda la investigación sobre la nueva variante se encuentra en una etapa inicial y persisten grandes incertidumbres y una larga lista de preguntas sin respuesta.
Como ya se reportó antes, los virus mutan todo el tiempo y es vital mantener mucha atención sobre si su comportamiento está cambiando.
1. ¿Por qué preocupa esta variante?
Se juntan tres cosas que llaman la atención:
Todo eso combinado hace que hablemos de un virus que se puede propagar más fácilmente.
Sin embargo, no tenemos una certeza absoluta.
Las nuevas cepas pueden volverse más comunes simplemente por estar en el lugar correcto en el momento adecuado, como en el caso de Londres, que no tenía altas restricciones hasta hace unas semanas.
“Se requieren experimentos de laboratorio, pero ¿quieres esperar semanas o meses [para ver los resultados y tomar medidas para limitar la propagación]? Probablemente no en estas circunstancias”, dijo el profesor Nick Loman, del Covid-19 Genomics UK Consortium.
2. ¿Qué tan rápido se está extendiendo?
La nueva cepa se detectó por primera vez en septiembre.
En noviembre, alrededor de una cuarta parte de los casos en Londres eran de esta nueva variante. Y para diciembre representaba casi dos tercios de los casos.
Los matemáticos llevaron a cabo proyecciones en un intento de calcular su peligrosidad. Pero separar lo que se atribuye al comportamiento de las personas y lo que se debe al virus es difícil.
La cifra mencionada por el primer ministro, Boris Johnson, fue que la variante puede ser hasta un 70% más transmisible.
Ese 70% apareció en una presentación del doctor Erik Volz, del Imperial College de Londres, el viernes.
Durante la charla afirmó que es “demasiado pronto para decirlo, pero por lo que se ve hasta ahora está creciendo muy rápido”.
“Está creciendo más rápido de lo que creció (la variante anterior) y es importante estar atentos”.
3. ¿Es más contagioso?
No hay una cifra “precisa” de cuánto más infecciosa puede ser la nueva cepa.
Diferentes científicos, cuyo trabajo aún no fue publicado, señalan cifras mucho más altas y mucho más bajas que el 70%.
“La cantidad de evidencia todavía es lamentablemente inadecuada para extraer opiniones fuertes o firmes sobre si el virus realmente ha aumentado la transmisión”, dijo el profesor Jonathan Ball, virólogo de la Universidad de Nottingham.
4. ¿Hasta dónde se ha extendido?
Se cree que la variante surgió en un paciente de Reino Unido o se importó de un país con menor capacidad para controlar las mutaciones del coronavirus.
Y se estima que la mutación está muy concentrada en Londres, el sureste y este de Inglaterra. Los casos en otras partes de esa nación no parecen haber despegado.
La nueva cepa ya ha llegado a otros países en varios continentes como Estados Unidos, España, Francia, Canadá, Japón y ahora Chile.
Sin embargo, es probable que la cepa ya estuviera circulando sin detectarse por el mundo antes de identificarse oficialmente en Reino Unido.
Una variante similar fue detectada en Sudáfrica y comparte algunas de las mismas variaciones, pero parece no estar relacionada con esta.
5. ¿Esto ya ha sucedido antes?
Sí. El virus que se detectó por primera vez en Wuhan, China, no es el mismo que ahora se encuentra en la mayoría de los rincones del mundo.
La mutación D614G surgió en Europa en febrero y se convirtió en la versión dominante del virus.
Otra, llamado A222V, se extendió por Europa y estaba vinculada a las vacaciones de verano de la gente en España.
6. ¿Qué sabemos sobre las nuevas mutaciones?
Se realizó un análisis inicial de la nueva variante que identifica 17 alteraciones potencialmente importantes.
Por ejemplo, hubo cambios en laproteína de pico, que es la llave que usa el virus para abrir la puerta a las células de nuestro cuerpo y apoderarse de ellas.
La mutación llamada N501Y altera la parte más importante del pico, conocida como “dominio de unión al receptor”.
Aquí es donde el pico hace contacto por primera vez con la superficie de las células de nuestro cuerpo. Cualquier cambio que facilite la entrada del virus probablemente le dará una ventaja.
“Parece y huele como una adaptación importante”, indica el profesor Loman.
De acuerdo a los estudios del profesor Ravi Gupta, de la Universidad de Cambridge, es posible que esta mutación aumente la capacidad de infección en los experimentos de laboratorio.
Sus estudios sugieren que la mutación hace que los anticuerpos de la sangre de los sobrevivientes a la enfermedad sean menos efectivos para atacar el virus.
Gupta afirma que el contagio “Está aumentando rápidamente”.
“Eso es lo que preocupa al gobierno. La mayoría de los científicos están preocupados”, añade.
7. ¿De dónde viene?
La variante del coronavirus mutó de manera inusual.
La explicación más probable es que surgió de un paciente con un sistema inmunológico debilitado que no pudo vencer al virus.
En cambio, su cuerpo se convirtió en un caldo de cultivo para que el virus cambie.
8. ¿Hace que la infección sea más mortal?
No hay evidencia que sugiera que sí, aunque esto deberá ser monitoreado.
Sin embargo, solo aumentar la transmisión sería suficiente para causar problemas a los hospitales.

9. ¿Funcionarán las vacunas contra la nueva variante?
Casi seguro que sí, o al menos por ahora.
Las tres vacunas más avanzadas desarrollan una respuesta inmune contra el pico del virus, razón por la cual surge la pregunta.
Se trata de dosis que entrenan al sistema inmunológico para atacar partes diferentes del virus, por lo que, aunque una parte del virus cambió, las vacunas aún deberían funcionar.
“Pero si dejamos que agregue más mutaciones, entonces podemos empezar a preocuparnos”, indica el profesor Gupta.
Y añade que este virus está “potencialmente en camino de escapar de la vacuna”.
“Dio un par de primeros pasos hacia eso”, señala.
La inefectividad de una vacuna ocurre cuando el virus cambia, por lo que esquiva el efecto completo de la dosis y continúa infectando a las personas.
Este puede ser el elemento más preocupante de lo que está sucediendo.
Esta variante es solo la última en mostrar que el virus continúa adaptándose a medida que nos infecta a más y más de nosotros.
Una exposición realizada el viernes 18 de diciembre realizada por el profesor David Robertson, de la Universidad de Glasgow, concluyó: “El virus probablemente podrá generar mutaciones que esquiven la vacuna”.
Eso nos colocaría en una posición similar a la de la gripe, donde las vacunas deben actualizarse periódicamente.

Venezuela suscribió este martes el acuerdo con Rusia para formalizar la adquisición de la vacuna contra el Covid-19, Sputnik V, con la cual se proyecta inmunizar a 10 millones de personas en una primera etapa del cronograma de inoculación.
Así lo informó la vicepresidenta Ejecutiva de la República, Delcy Rodríguez, tras la firma del contrato entre Venezuela y Rusia, en un acto efectuado en la sede de la Vicepresidencia, centro de Caracas, junto al canciller de la nación, Jorge Arreaza; el ministro para la Salud, Carlos Alvarado, y el embajador ruso en Venezuela, Sergúei Melik-Bagdasarov.
“Venezuela acaba de suscribir el contrato para la adquisición de la vacuna Sputnik V. Estamos en esta primera etapa. Hemos firmado para vacunar a 10 millones de personas“, puntualizó Rodríguez.
Recordó que en Venezuela se lleva a cabo exitosamente el ensayo clínico de la vacuna.
“Es realmente importante el paso adelante y firme que dio Rusia con su vacuna. Sabemos que la vacuna rusa es muy segura y ya estamos preparados para empezar a vacunar a nuestra población lo más pronto posible. El presidente Nicolás Maduro aseguró este lunes 28 de diciembre que su mandato puede ser sometido a un referendo revocatorio en 2022, tras haber sido «juramentado presidente reelecto» para el período 2019-2025.

El cambio del estatuto se produjo en momentos que varios diputados están fuera del país luego de fallos judiciales y otros legisladores tienen dudas de continuar ejerciendo sus funciones por la incertidumbre política.
“Frente a las ínfulas inconstitucionales de autoproclamar extensiones de mandato que no corresponden, confiemos en que la justicia, ahora sí, de manera férrea, haga su trabajo”, señaló Maduro en un acto con oficiales de la Fuerza Armada Nacional y transmitido por la televisión estatal.

El ministro consejero de la Embajada de Venezuela en Washington, Gustavo Marcano, anunció la elaboración de un censo de los venezolanos que necesitan un Estatuto de Protección Temporal (TPS) para presentarlo a las autoridades estadounidenses con el fin de impulsar su pronta aprobación, reseñó la agencia EFE.
Marcano hizo el anuncio a la salida del Broward Transitional Center, un centro de detención próximo a Miami donde él y otros miembros de la delegación diplomática que representa al líder opositor Juan Guaidó se reunieron con 40 venezolanos, 38 hombres y dos mujeres, recluidos allí por razones migratorias.
“Estamos esperando a que llegue la nueva administración para entregarles un número preciso para poder trabajar con ellos y no tengamos que ver nunca más a personas como las que vimos hoy”, dijo.
“Lo que los venezolanos necesitan es una garantía para poder vivir libres y trabajar legalmente en este país y no ser deportados a Venezuela”, subrayó.
El ministro consejero hizo hincapié en que ninguno de los 40 venezolanos a los que visitó ha cometido delito alguno y la única razón de que estén detenidos es porque tuvieron que huir de Venezuela o en busca de oportunidades para ellos y sus familias debido a la crisis económica que atraviesa el país.
Los representantes de Guaidó, reconocido por el gobierno de Estados Unidos como presidente interino de Venezuela, dijeron que ninguno de los venezolanos en ese centro situado al norte de Miami se ha contagiado de covid-19.
Los venezolanos en el Broward Transitional Center les indicaron que los detenidos que presentan síntomas de covid-19 son puestos en aislamiento en áreas especiales, dijo Marcano en respuesta a un periodista que le interpeló sobre algunas denuncias de hacinamiento y falta de higiene planteadas por familiares de otros indocumentados recluidos en ese centro.
Marcano indicó que los venezolanos sí plantearon la necesidad de un acceso más fácil a medicamentos que algunos requieren por problemas crónicos.
Insistió en que van a hacer todo lo posible para que el gobierno que asumirá en enero o el Congreso estadounidense aprueben en el primer mes del año 2021 el TPS para los venezolanos, algo a lo que el demócrata Joe Biden, ya presidente electo, se mostró favorable durante la campaña electoral.
El diplomático señaló que la embajada, que encabeza Carlos Vecchio, se ha reunido con representantes y senadores tanto demócratas como republicanos con el fin de allanar el camino.
El registro o censo de venezolanos en vulnerabilidad migratoria tiene como objeto que se apruebe lo más rápido posible la TPS, ya sea por vía ejecutiva o legislativa, agregó.
“Se trata de una medida temporal, hasta que logremos la libertad del país en elecciones libres y transparentes”, recalcó.

Desde Fuerte Tiuna, ubicado en Caracas, subrayó que la Ley Constitucional “debe ser apropiada, digerida y convertida en fuerza de acción por todos los soldados y las soldadas de la República”, razón por la cual reiteró la necesidad de analizar sus principios “en cada unidad militar, en cada nave y en cada cuartel”.
“Deben estudiar, conocer y apropiarse del contenido completo de la Ley Constitucional, es una orden”, agregó.
Al destacar los principios filosóficos, ideológicos, éticos y morales consagrados en la Ley Constitucional de la FANB, el Dignatario agradeció el compromiso demostrado por la entidad castrense en las labores de protección ciudadana en medio de la pandemia por COVID-19, desde que se decretara cuarentena social en marzo pasado.
